5 Schools & Employers That Offer Military Spouse Tuition Assistance

There are schools and employers around the country that understand the sacrifices that not only our services members make every day, but the sacrifices that their dependents make as well.

It can be nearly impossible for a military spouse to finish an in-state college education when military orders are pulling them across the globe. Fortunately, there are a number of military spouse tuition assistance options out there that make it a little bit easier for military spouses to attend school without breaking the bank.

With the help of virtual programs and tuition assistance, completing a degree as a military spouse is no longer a far-fetched idea. Many military friendly schools offer discounts and scholarships to military members and their dependents.

Don’t stop your tuition assistance search at the university level. Did you know that there are military friendly employers dedicated to hiring veterans and military spouses? Some employers even go above and beyond to offer tuition assistance to their employees. Combine this with scholarships such as the MYCAA scholarship and there is no reason to pay full price for a college education.

1. College for Financial Planning

A leading educator in the financial services industry, the College for Financial Planning (CFFP) has a number of financial resources available to help military spouses complete their degrees online. They offer reduced tuition rates for military families, various scholarships for military spouses and are an approved program for the MYCAA scholarship.

2. Starbucks

Named as a top military spouse friendly employer for 2015, Starbucks announced on Veteran’s Day that they would now be extending a college tuition benefit to current and former active duty military employees that can be transferred to a spouse or dependent.

3. University of Nebraska Omaha

Recently voted as the #1 four-year institution for veterans in the annual Military Times poll, they have a full-time veterans affair employee to help with military students. They also offer scholarships dedicated to military spouses.

4. United States Automobile Association – USAA

USAA is well known for their military exclusive products and pricing.  What might not be as well known is the fact that USAA has committed to making sure that 30% of their new hires come from the military community.  And to top that off, after just 90 days, employees are eligible for tuition assistance towards certifications, bachelor’s degrees or master’s degrees.

5. Texas A&M University

Rated highly in both 2014 and 2015 by Military Times as one of the best schools for veterans, Texas A&M has a dedicated Veteran Resource & Support Center for veterans and their dependents. They also offer military spouse specific scholarships to pursue higher education.
