Memorial Day Calls for Remembrance
As Memorial Day approaches, communities across the nation come together to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. Among those leading the charge is Project 33, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the legacies of U.S. Special Operations soldiers who have fallen in the line of duty since September 11, 2001. With their 7th Annual Memorial Day Run just around the corner, Project 33 invites individuals from all walks of life to lace up their running shoes and join in paying tribute to our nation’s heroes.
The Story of Project 33 is Centered on Honoring the Fallen
Founded with a solemn mission to ensure that the sacrifices of the U.S. Special Operations soldiers are never forgotten, Project 33 exists to create opportunities for remembrance and give support for the families of fallen heroes. Through community engagement, fundraising initiatives, and partnership efforts, Project 33 strives to honor the memory of these courageous individuals and provide assistance to those they leave behind. Each year, their Memorial Day Run serves as a poignant reminder of the selfless service and unwavering commitment exhibited by these humble warriors.
Remembering Sgt First Class Marcus V. Muralles
This year, Project 33 proudly announces their 2024 honoree, U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Marcus V. Muralles. Born to Guatemalan immigrants and raised in Shelbyville, Indiana, Sgt. 1st Class Muralles embodied the values of duty, honor, and sacrifice from an early age. His remarkable military career saw him serve with distinction in various capacities, from infantryman to aerial flight medic with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Tragically, Sgt. 1st Class Muralles made the ultimate sacrifice on June 28, 2005, during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan. Today, we honor his memory and the legacy of valor he leaves behind.
The Memorial Day Run Event
On May 27, 2024, join Project 33 for their 7th Annual Memorial Day Run, a community event spanning 6.8 miles from the Town of Hamburg Park to the Hamburg Brewing Company in New York. More than just a race, this run is a symbolic gesture of solidarity and remembrance, with the American flag leading the way in honor of our fallen heroes. Participants are invited to come dressed in their patriotic spirit and bring their endurance as they join together to pay tribute to Sgt. 1st Class Muralles and other brave servicemembers.
Supporting the Cause
By participating in the Memorial Day Run, individuals have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in preserving the legacies of our nation’s heroes. Funds raised during the event will be donated to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, providing educational support to the families of fallen special operations soldiers. With the blessing of the Muralles family, Project 33 is proud to host this run in honor of Sgt. 1st Class Muralles and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
