TOP 10

1: Leidos

Leidos is a Fortune 500® information technology, engineering, and science solutions and services leader working to solve the world’s toughest challenges in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil, and health markets. The company’s 33,000 employees support vital missions for government and commercial customers. Headquartered in Reston, Va., Leidos reported annual revenues of approximately $10.19 billion for the fiscal year ending Dec. 28, 2018.

Operation MVP is Leidos’ official Military Veteran Outreach Program. The program’s mission is to build veteran talent pipelines and increase the company’s presence as a preferred employer for veteran and military spouse candidates. By assisting transitioning service members and military spouses in their job search, Leidos helps build their employer brand within the veteran community, and increase their available qualified talent.

Leidos participates in specific career development and networking events geared towards the veteran and military spouse population. They stay actively engaged with military transition offices, Department of Labor representatives, as well as veteran nonprofit and membership organizations geared towards the employment of veterans and military spouses.

“Leidos has afforded me the ability to perform my role remotely, which offers me a sense of comfort should we ever need to relocate. Frankly, it’s one less thing I need to worry about and that is really important to me. Additionally, as a member of Leidos’ Military Alliance Group (MAG), I have obtained further insight into military life culture through recurring interactions with other MAG members. This has enabled me to gain a deeper appreciation for others’ experiences. I’m proud to work for a company that doesn’t just talk about veteran appreciation but rather they express it in the initiatives they support, the resources available to veteran employees and the steadfast commitment to hiring veterans.”

2: Prudential Financial, Inc.

Prudential’s goal is to offer military spouses portable careers, and in many instances, that means helping eliminate or reduce barriers to retain military spouse talent. The company has commissioned research with the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University (IVMF) both on the business case for hiring military spouses and for affording portable careers, to include overseas. They have created an internal cross-sectional task force to leverage existing policies and practices to create a military spouse employment guide with versions for the hiring manager and the military spouse employee. Prudential’s overarching goal is to afford military spouse talent meaningful careers at the company and share their best practices with other like-minded employers.

“Employers who don’t consider military spouses are missing out on strong candidates.”

Military spouses are encouraged to seek support from participation in their Veterans Employee Resource Group and Culture Crew initiatives.

“I am so thankful to Windstream and their flexibility to me as a military spouse. We were stationed overseas in Ramstein, Germany when I first interviewed for the company. It was such a relief to know that I had a job secured prior to making our move back to the states. After four years of being with the company, we received orders out of state and Windstream allowed me to work remotely. I have now been with the company for eight years and I’m so grateful to Windstream for allowing me the flexibility to serve alongside my husband.”
