2022 Military Spouse Friendly Employers

These organizations realize the value of hiring military spouses.

They get it! Every year, Military Friendly® identifies organizations that understand a very simple business concept: Not only are military spouses NOT a liability because they move every couple of years, they are an asset because they know how to solve problems. They’re creative, adaptive, resourceful, diverse and engaged.

The following 172 organizations earned the Military Spouse Friendly Employer® designation for 2022. They are organized by size according to their revenue category. The top 10 for each category are those that scored the highest. We asked the top-ranked organization in each category to tell us what makes their military spouse program special, what drives their efforts to hire America’s milspouses, and to identify the top jobs they recruit them for. Four of the five provided the requested information.

Booz Allen Hamilton

What makes your military spouse program special?

Booz Allen’s focus on hiring and retaining military spouses is based on a simple yet powerful premise: “Improve military readiness and retention—one military spouse at a time.” As a result of a grassroots effort by military spouses wanting to connect with each other, we launched our signature Military Spouse Network. A first of its kind, the network put Booz Allen on the map as an employer of choice for military spouse talent, and empowered other companies to join in. We are proud that our military spouse retention is equal to the firm-wide rate as a result.

Boldly

What makes your military spouse program special?

As a team where 80% of our leadership are military spouses, we understand from firsthand experience the importance of a flexible, rewarding and portable career! All of our positions give our team the ability to take their employment with them no matter where they are stationed, and work part time or full time hours as a W2 employee with benefits. In addition, all of our positions are “flexible,” which allows for school pickups, extra curricular activities and attending to life and the unpredictable in general! We are inspired by the fact that our military spouses are able to fully participate in the workforce as they want to, in a rewarding long-term position throughout their service member’s career—and beyond!

What drives your organization’s efforts to provide fulfilling careers to America’s military spouses?

“As business leaders, let’s never forget the strength and courage that it takes to be a military spouse. Loving and supporting an active-duty service member throughout a long-term career that encompasses danger and uncertainty—raising a family and providing stability in often-changing duty stations and during long periods alone takes extraordinary character. Who could be more deserving of a flexible and portable career than a military spouse? It is truly an honor to be able to offer fulfilling and supportive careers to people that I admire so much.”
