4. I’ve made excellent friends.
This is, really, one of the biggest perks of the job. Working in this community has given me the opportunity to meet so many people — men and women, older and younger, from all walks of life — that I may never have met otherwise. And it’s wonderful!
5. I really feel like part of the community
Most importantly, working on base has given me the chance to feel like a part of this base community in so many ways. Sometimes it’s just as simple as a smile and some familiarity with the people I see every day, be they a customer, or someone who works in the next store over. I find out about events and opportunities to get involved, whenever there’s a new poster or stall.
It’s just a great, easy way to immerse oneself in the base community, and for a newbie like myself, the experience is hugely valuable. And hey, everyone likes to feel included, right?
