E-mail Education Is Greatly Needed
Unfortunately, most of us write like we talk. Not in complete sentences or fully-formed, carefully planned thoughts. It’s a disaster in the making when we write quickly, trying to get our thoughts and visions across a keyboard in a furious fashion. Because we type, think, and see the words at the SAME time, we do not give ourselves enough time to form proper sentences that accomplish complete thoughts.
We communicate in bullet points and in templated formats. Between Facebook, LinkedIn, e-mail and search engines, we categorize our lives in albums and profiles which define our habits at a glance. Why are we so willing to distribute so much information about ourselves on public forums – yet not take the time to learn how to write eye-catching and “read me” e-mails?
Even with spell check on our computer programs, there are at least two pages’ worth of commonly known misspelled words, three pages’ worth of frequently confused words, and two pages’ worth of redundant phrases I could list in this article alone.
