Education Options For YOU

I’m 30 years old. For the past 26 years I have been in the classroom one way or another. I went straight from high school to community college. Finished an Associates in Social Science and decided to transfer to Old Dominion University to complete a Bachelors of Science in Communications and Political Science. Let me tell you, that is not exactly a lucrative degree if you want to get an actual job. I finished at ODU in 2007 and am just now doing something that relates to that degree with my writing.

Because I couldn’t find a “grown-up” job after college, I started to substitute teach. There I fell in love with being in a classroom again, this time just on the other side of the desk. It was because of the 4 years I spent subbing that I enlisted. I knew I wanted to go back to school and could not afford to pay for another degree on my own. While I might not suggest lacing up the combat boots as a way for everyone to pay for college, for me it was the best option out there.

Are you challenging yourself for 2015? Maybe a new education plan is a good place to start. When you enlist there are so many education options. If you or your spouse are active duty and you aren’t taking advantage of the education benefits out there, please re-evaluate why. It’s often said the military is getting the most out of you so you might as well get the most out of the military while you’re in. Just look at some of your options….
