Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Announces New Certificate

Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, known for its dedication to equipping individuals for ministry, has unveiled an innovative program tailored explicitly for women in ministry: the GO Certificate in Ministry to Women. This seven-course, self-paced certificate is designed to empower and train women to become impactful disciples within their communities and is perfectly positioned to help provide military spouses with the credentials for a portable career.

“At Southeastern, we firmly believe that mature disciples breed mature disciples. Our mission is to support the Church in fulfilling the Great Commission,” shared Julia Higgins, assistant professor of ministry to women and director of women’s degree programs. “Our fervent aspiration is to witness women flourish in biblical knowledge, theological understanding, and a fervor for missions. Hence, we are thrilled to introduce the GO Certificate in Ministry to Women.”

The certificate’s cornerstone lies in its flexibility, allowing military spouses who are engaged in the throes of navigating the challenges of active-duty military life to obtain accessible, theological training.

Comprising seven comprehensive courses, this certificate blends foundational biblical and theological teachings with practical training tailored specifically for women’s ministry:

  1. Old Testament Survey
  2. New Testament Survey
  3. Christian Theology
  4. Biblical Exposition for Ministry to Women
  5. Leading Women to Be on Mission
  6. Women’s Ministry in the Local Church
  7. Counseling Women

Chris Thompson, Associate Vice President for Academic Administration, emphasized the adaptability of this certificate to meet diverse church and individual needs.

“The GO Certificate in Ministry to Women offers robust theological training in an accessible format. Churches can utilize these courses in small group settings, while individuals have the freedom to navigate through the certificate at their own pace. The intentional design allows for seamless adaptation to a student’s calling and context.”

One of the other distinctive aspects of this program is its affordability. Priced at $97 per course, totaling $679 for the entire certificate, Southeastern aims to make quality theological education affordable. Additionally, for a limited time, early registrants within the inaugural year can avail themselves of a discounted rate of $50 per course. Moreover, spouses of existing Southeastern students can access the certificate at a further discounted rate of $25 per course.
