Married to: Cassidy Norman
Current location: Norfolk Naval Station, Va.
Years as a military spouse: 23
My calling is to advocate for military children with special needs and their access to an appropriate education. The only way to ensure change is through education, reform and legislation. I am very excited to be able to talk to our leaders in our Congress and military on behalf of our extraordinary families. I have been making change through engagement with state legislators, supporting bills that will help low-income military families access an appropriate education, co-founding the support group, Parents for FAPE, participating as a member of the Virginia Department of Education’s Military Student Support Process Action team, helping build the case for an ongoing Inspector General investigation regarding the Exceptional Family Military Program effectiveness across all military services, and promoting awareness of the challenging special education issues facing our military families through media. I am devoted to advocating for our military children with special needs and their right to an appropriate education. We need to keep educating our military families about what that really means, reform our existing programs to actually make them useful, and bring on legislation to fill in the gaps in the education of children with special needs.
