It’s about time to say out with the old and in with the New Year. If you’re thinking about hosting New Year’s Eve at your place, here are my top 3 ways to make it the most perfect New Year’s Eve party on the block.
1. Embrace The Event!
It’s New Years! This isn’t a night to do the typical sit down formal meal or even just try and throw together something at the last moment. Go big and embrace the themed evening. Even the biggest party pooper will be found with a New Years hat and sparkly boa wrapped around their neck at midnight if given the opportunity so set the scene and let have some fun with it. Party City is full of New Years decorations for those like me who aren’t the DIY type. Pick a color and ask guest to play along. Model the night after your favorite movie. If you’re hosting a bunch of friends while spouses are deployed why not turn the house into a grown up slumber party? Whatever you do just embrace the theme and go all out!
2. Forget The Mess!
This one is always hard for me. I like a neat house and can’t stand mess but I know when company is coming I have to just relax and enjoy the time with friends rather than worrying about if someone used a coaster or rushing to put leftovers in the fridge as soon as the meal is over. Channel your inner college kid and just let the mess set for the night while you really get to live in the moment with those who you want to ring in the New Year with. I promise the night will not be ruined if you kick your feet up and relax a little.
3. Get Everyone Home Safely!
New Years Eve is a night known for its drunken driving accident statistics. Don’t let your guest be a part of them. I don’t want to imply you should police who is drinking what all night, but do be a good host and be aware of the situation. If you’re afraid a guest has had too much to drink and you don’t have a spare room for those who need to sleep it off, don’t hesitate to call a cab, Uber, or Lyft driver to help out. And if the guest is really worried about the fact that they need their car to return with them then AAA has you covered. From Christmas Eve until 6am on January 2nd they are offering free towing and a ride home (here are the details) for people who find themselves stuck in a bad situation due to too much alcohol. Even non-AAA members can take advantage of this Tow 2 Go service by calling 855-2-TOW-2 GO (or 855-286-9246).
