4. “That’s right, I stepped up! She’s my friend and she needed help. If I had to, I’d pee on any one of you!”
Maybe we haven’t peed on our milspouse friends, but, like Joey, many of us haven’t batted an eye when things got real and a friend need serious help – fast.
Some of us have been in the delivery room, standing side-by-side with milspouse friends as they gave birth. We’ve waited at the hospital when friends were in surgery. We’ve packed out homes when emergencies whisk families away with little more than a moment’s notice. We’ve met in the middle of the street at 2 a.m., clad in our slippers and robes, to pass along Children’s Tylenol for a sick child.
And we’d do it for any milspouse, anytime. Because we know the milspouse code (which sounds like Joey’s, too): we step up, and we’re there for each other, no questions asked.
5. “I’m not so good with the advice. Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?”
Yes, please!
We’re constantly faced with serious decisions in this life! Should I PCS ahead of my service member? Should we geo-bach? Should the kids and I move home while my service member is deployed? I’m so scared he’s deploying there; how do I manage this? How can I maintain a good career and be a good military spouse, too?
That’s why it’s good we have milspouse friends like Chandler, who do a little more than listen and advise. These milspouse friends are the salt on the margarita glass, the jalapeño in the salsa. They’ll add the spice to life, the laughter to the seriousness, and we love them for it! These friends remind us to relax, to joke even when we feel like crying.
Sometimes, that’s just what we need.
6. “Pivot!”
Leave it to Dr. Ross Geller to boil down military life into a single, perfect word. Wouldn’t you agree that this word alone is probably the key to making it through military life? How many snapshots of your life can this quote caption? Let’s take a look!
Your service member told you that, although you thought you had orders to Scott Air Force Base, now you have orders to Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Pivot!
You were halfway through a deployment. You finally scheduled in some blissful “me time” for a day, but your son caught that nasty stomach bug, so you had to nix your plans.
Pivot!
A seasoned spouse told you her secret to managing the military life’s constant changes.
Pivot! Pivot! Pivoooot!
The fact is, if someone took snapshots of us all day, everyday, we could caption many of them with “pivot.” And as the years go by, we get pretty agile and flexible in the process.
