Sitting back for the last four years, I have observed quite a few military spouses that have been very vocal about where they stand, objecting against anything President Trump does. Not many of them falling on the political side known as “the right.” Speaking out and screaming their views from the rooftops. Any slight chance a spouse with opposing views would speak out, they were attacked and left for a mob that would drag them through the depths. I remained in hiding.
But I soon realized that there were more military spouses that were not actively speaking out about their political views. A vast majority of military spouses are actually non-confrontational and choose to keep to themselves. Some have no interest in politics at all, and others live and breathe it within their own circles.
However, that mutual understanding and respect that our spouses should never be publicly political seem to have fallen to the side for a few. Unfortunately, I believe our silence has allowed their voices to speak for us all. The views of some retired service members and spouses have been making their way across the mainstream media sights. Leaving everyone who lives this unique life lumped behind a single person’s views. Over the last few weeks, there have been several articles stating, “military families,” or “military spouses,” are actively speaking out against the President. Giving the world a view that we are all rising up against him, even though that is the furthest from the truth. On top of that also watching senators renaming the very places we call home, without a word of asking the opinion of those military families it directly affects! These things are why I ask…
America, where are you going?
You have taken off, leaving behind the very freedom we all rely on. Allowing individuals, Senators, and the media to take away our very freedom of speech. Allowing writers, and other spouses to speak on our behalf, as a whole without asking for permission or opinions. Lumping all of us together as one solid outlook for the world to see. America, we can speak for ourselves! It is not okay to assume we all have the same opinions, values, and principles.
Our military has sacrificed, bled, and died for American Freedom.
That freedom is something that our families understand more than most! The military is not just one entity, it is a family made up of individuals, all with different outlooks on life, political affiliations, religions, every race, and every culture imaginable. Our families sacrifice months and years for the American people. Time which is so often taken for granted by so many. Our children experience the world at the cost of their education leaving us to scramble around praying for the best. Our families move around on average every three years from one base to another, from one side the world to the other, meeting new people that become a part of our tight-knit family that is scattered around every military base on this earth. We are a family, but we individually vote, individually own businesses, and individually speak for ourselves. Let us live the American Dream and have our own individual opinions!
