If you could spend one day with any character from your book, who would it be?

I’d probably spend it with Wolfe from the Deep Ops gang.  He seems so crazy and fun all at the same time, and it’d be cool to meet Kat the kitten, too.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

My favorite part of the entire writing process is the first chapter of any book.  When the characters show up and I can just write and see where it goes.  Since I write romance, usually the first chapter is either the couple meeting or meeting up again, and once they do that, then I have to figure out who they are and why they’re on the page.  But that blank page, chapter one, is always my favorite writing time.

Do you have a process for working through writer’s block?

I don’t really think writer’s block exists in and of itself.  If somebody is blocked or can’t write, then it’s usually a symptom of something deeper like anxiety, depression, grief, fear, and so on.  So the underlying issue needs to be addressed.  Now, there are times I just can’t figure out where to go with a particular story, and I’ve found that leaving the computer and going for a walk or working out will often let my subconscious fix the problem.

Do you do any hands-on research for your books? Have you had a favorite experience?

I let my sister lock me in the trunk of an old Chevy and drive around to see what it felt like.  Nobody else would do it, but my sister was all in.  Unfortunately, she drove all around town and over railroad tracks, having a ball.  But I think I nailed that scene-LOL.

Where do you fall on the bookmark vs dog-ear debate?

So long as somebody is reading the books and liking them, either would be okay with me.  The characters and the story are what matter—at least to me.
