Mandy McCammon, a former Marine staff sergeant who served for 10 years and now works as a civilian for the DOD in public affairs, said she is confident Mattis is extremely qualified and will do a good job. McCammon’s husband is a chief warrant officer 4 in the Marine Corps currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
“He’s an extremely intelligent, professional person,” McCammon said of Mattis. McCammon did not work for Mattis, but did work for Plenzler. “If you’re looking for someone who can run the DOD, (Mattis) is the guy.
But McCammon warned about having too high of expectations.
“He is a human being and a person who is serving at the behest of the president of the United States. They’re on the same team,” she said. “He’s a very pragmatic, intelligent leader. He’d be the first person to tell you, ‘I’m not your savior. I’m here to do this job and I’ll do the best I can.’”
