3. A Life of Service
Let me be clear. I have never served in the military.
I don’t consider just being married to a Marine a service to my country, necessarily.
But being a military spouse has given me a desire to serve others in whatever way I can, because I see it in action every single day. And I like what I see.
Volunteering, giving of yourself to your community or people in need, is such a rewarding thing to do. Military life has fostered the idea of serving others for our family.
2. The People
I have met some of the most amazing folks on the planet, I truly believe, as a direct result of our military lifestyle.
We have friends ALL OVER the globe, and they have improved and enriched our lives in more ways than I can count.
Sure, saying goodbye to them really stinks.
But I would rather say goodbye to an amazing friend after having the opportunity to get to know her… than to never have had the opportunity to get to know her in the first place.
1. Being Surrounded By Heroes
I consider this to be the thing I love most about military life. How lucky are we to get to meet, know and share life experiences with the service members who have so honorably answered the call?
I consider it a great privilege.
Being witness to what it really takes to keep this country free? That is amazing.
And of course, the greatest privilege of all is sharing my life (even when we are separated by training or deployments) with my favorite hero, my husband.
Sure, there are many challenges in military life. But at the end of the day… if being with him means I have to adapt, overcome and suck it up from time to time?
Then so be it. It has been worth every single second.
