Of course, there was Chaplain (Capt) Bohnsack who agreed to marry them with only a few hours notice and professional photographer, Laura Childs, who happens to be a fellow military spouse to show up and snap a few shots of the impromptu wedding. Let’s not forget the nurses and doctors who unhooked her IV’s and helped her to the chapel on her wedding day.
During the ceremony, everyone watched the simple service that meant so much. Grown men were wiping tears from their eyes, attempting to keep their composure and fellow military spouses trying to smile through tissues, realizing how profound and beautiful these vows were – in sickness and in health.
These were all selfless acts by individuals to make a dream come true for a fellow Airmen and her soon-to-be husband.
Nate Black was able to see his entire military family tree in one day and in one room.
Nate remembers the way the base came together so quickly, “I was in awe of how all of these people dropped what they were doing and came to the ceremony. Even though we had told people that ABU’s were perfectly acceptable for the ceremony, many went home and changed into suits for the service. I still am amazed at the concern and support that we have received from people of all ranks and positions.”
