In the Waiting

A military marriage requires so much hard work, a life you have to live to understand, a life that requires a lot of waiting.

Waiting on orders.

Waiting on housing.

Waiting to know where you’ll live on that list of 150 possibilities.

Waiting for HHG.

Waiting to make friends.

Waiting for a job.

Waiting months to pass while he’s on TDY again.

Waiting for him to call.

Waiting for his letter.

Waiting for it to get back to normal.

Waiting a year to be whole again, that is, the heaviest kind of waiting.

It can tear you apart if you let it.

But while we wait, if we look up, and surrender our desire to control, He’s in the waiting. It’s our opportunity as military families to demonstrate a faith that we know:

He’s orchestrating the orders.

He’s preparing our home.

He’s finding the perfect place.

He’s teaching us to live with less.

He’s provided the flowers to help us bloom.

He’s working on us while we wait for our work.

He’s comforting us while the months pass.

He’s providing the phone service.

He’s inspiring the words we need to read to go on another day.

He’s healing months of anxiety.

He’s teaching us to let Him be our heavenly Father while we wait for our earthly husband.

We are forced to surrender so many of our plans as military spouses, plans most couples get to make themselves. If we choose to trust God’s plan for our life while we wait, even when it seems like the Army is the one in control, and know that He’s never failing, our waiting won’t feel as overwhelmingly heavy. And in the process of the waiting’s, we grow together in our marriage, in our powerful testimony of His promises, and in our faith.

Take courage my heart, He’s in the waiting. Look up.
