Get-togethers can be a time of grand celebration or add to the compounding feelings of loneliness on a deployment. Whether you are celebrating with friends or with your family for the first time in awhile or prepping for some mandatory fun, here are 2 insanely simply summer recipes you can make this summer whether you’ve got all the time in the world or no time at all.
1: Everybody loves parfaits!
Parfaits are the perfect treat if you want to feel fancy, but only have ten minutes on your hands.
What you’ll need:
- Graham Crackers (I prefer the cinnamon)
- Vanilla greek yogurt
- Strawberries
- White chocolate chips
- Blueberries
- optional fun: edible glitter
Some parfait recipes call for Red Velvet cake, but you can skip it if you don’t have the time. Starting with crushed-up Graham Crackers, sprinkle them in either individual containers or one large bowl. The great thing about parfaits is there is no wrong way to do them. Layer the ingredients in the order listed above and repeat until you have no space left. Sprinkle edible glitter on top for extra pizazz.
2: Veggie Pizza is always a good call
Pizza is always an excellent choice any day of the year. Vegetable pizza is easy to make and allows you to feel indulgent while still being healthy. From the store:
- Pick up your favorite vegetables
- Two packages of croissant dough.
- Either vegetable dip or the fixings to make a simple ranch dip.
Make a pizza crust with the dough and cook according to directions. While it cooks, Chop up peppers, carrots, celery, and cilantro. When the crust is ready, spread the vegetable dip, and sprinkle the vegetables across the top. You can put it in the fridge to chill and cut up like pizza for a fantastic nutritious snack.
Pro Tip: Home-brought and homemade both count
It’s 2021, which means you might be socializing with new people for the first time in a long time. If you are putting all your concentration into remembering how to socialize, you may not have the energy for your favorite seven-layer dip.
No guilt: Buy frozen cream puffs or the cavity-invoking sugar cookies from the store instead.
We’re all trying our best, and home-brought counts just as much as anything else. You could also offer to bring drinks or utensils. Napkins save the day more often than cake does, so there’s no shame in bringing the necessities.
