I represent the fighting spirit of the Navy and those who have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world.
I am a third generation Sailor. I followed in the footsteps of my father and my grandfather.
I was sworn into service by my Uncle.
I was pinned to promotion by my Aunt’s husband.
I was welcomed home from deployment by a family full of service members.
I represent my whole family every time I put on the uniform.
I am a female Sailor.
Less than 20% of active duty service members are female and I am one of them. I am able to be a role model to girls who need to see that women CAN do anything.
On deployment, I was part of a program called ‘Women in War’ that created a pen-pal situation for deployed service women. A year after I returned home, I came across letter than a girl sent me while I was gone. Before I could reach out and touch base with her, she went looking for me. She wanted to let me know I was part of the reason she decided to enlist.
I am part of something bigger than myself and will always be able to say I was a United States Sailor.
