Why did I marry you on Veteran’s Day?
Because I knew that life would always throw things our way that were bigger than us.
Because like our ancestors, many who were veterans themselves, have been here, are a part of us and always will be.
The dynamics within our relationship are completely unique to each other, offering complementary angles in every facet of life.
You’ve given me a foundation for my dreams to become reality.
You’ve wrapped your head around all of this out of your unconditional love for me. I can feel what you experience thousands of miles away and so can our kids. They hold everything of both you and me as a constant reminder of the beautiful things we cultivate together.
When I married you, I married your soul and whatever that meant down the line. I signed that marriage license making an ultimate sacrifice to you.
Some can say I married into this lifestyle, it’s the life I choose. But they simply can’t understand with a love like we have that I would choose you again and again.
Though I, a veteran myself, did choose this lifestyle long ago when I signed that dotted line to make the ultimate sacrifice, knowing if needed, I would lay down my life.
So Happy Anniversary my love as you are thousands of miles away – the second of many holidays we will miss together this year. So that ours and our children’s freedoms can be protected.
So that life can keep handing us things much bigger than us during deployment.
So that missing you is a reminder of that choice to marry you, again and again.
Being a veteran, I can understand the gravity of what it means to sacrifice our time.
So that I can look around with so much appreciation and gratitude for everything around us and know that our TEAM makes “choices” to actively live a beautiful life together even thousands of miles apart.
Love knows no distance, Time is only an illusion, Sacrifice is necessary for growth, Action is a choice.
Veterans, I thank you for your service – and being an outstanding comrade.
Happy Veterans Day!!
