There might have been some luck involved with Rosenberg’s journey, but she says this to those military spouses looking to flex their entrepreneurial muscle: “Do your research and then do it again. Prepare for everything because nothing will go as planned. But as a military spouse, there is one thing we are used to and do very well — improvise!”
Rosenberg continued on with this dream by applying for The Great Food Truck Race in 2012, while stationed in Bamberg, Germany, and without a food truck! After not hearing back, she recognized that she had found her new goal — starting a food truck, and when it came time for Season 5 of the show, she was ready. With her partners, Michele Bajakian and Wendy Newman (both also are military spouses), they set out on the “Great Food Truck Race.”
They didn’t make it to the end, but being on the show bolstered Rosenberg and her team forward on their journey. They opened up the pink food truck, Military Moms Truck, making food that Mom makes and serving the families and service members in and around the Fort Drum area.
Now living the retired from military life back in North Carolina, and with a few years of food truck business under her belt, Rosenberg is continuing to do amazing things. Her goal now, while waiting to see if she will appear on the next season of “Chopped”!) is to give back and help others like her succeed. She is working on a cookbook, and she intends to use a portion of the sales to start a foundation.
Rosenberg points out there are a lot more programs in place for veterans to get assistance in the entrepreneur field, but “It is much harder for military spouses who have had to change jobs every few years.”
With this foundation, she hopes other military spouses like her can find their own path to their dream. However, she encourages military spouses to be realistic about their lives. “If you know you are marrying a military man look at it for what it is,” she says. “Get your big girl panties out! Carve out some time every day for yourself, be it a silly TV show or something else. Take care of yourself. And know without a shadow of a doubt you are raising some of the most resilient children this world has seen!”
