Once you have chosen who you would like to support the question often becomes how? Some of the ways you can support your candidate are are by donating funds to their campaigns, hosting them in your town, or getting involved at a local office for campaign support. So what does campaign and voting support look like?
Listed below are several examples of how you can help:
1: Set up signs and knock on doors for your candidate
However, doing this on base please make sure you check with you military housing, before you go door to door. Discussing the pressing issues within our community will greatly help spark interest and debate.
2: Volunteer at a local campaign office
Volunteering at a local office could mean a number of things such as making phone calls on behalf of the candidate, bringing meals into the office for the campaign workers, or even simply handing over some cleaning supplies so that the office can run efficiently. Campaigns always need volunteers. Consider getting involved even if you are stationed OCONUS, a local campaign needs your help.
3: Go to rallies and speeches!
Attend a town hall! I say this because we often thrive off of the encouragement and excitement during an election year. Supporting your candidate is part of that! As always use your best judgment when attending and keep safety a priority.
4: Help other spouses, stationed OCONUS, with registering to vote and sending in ballots
This is huge to those that are stationed aboard and not really sure if they can get their votes in and how the process works. You can partner with the local bases to see if they have a program available and how you can lend a hand.
5: Volunteer at a polling station
Voting is essential to our democratic process. We should support this and what better way then helping our fellow citizens! You can contribute and get paid at the same time. You can do this for a portion of the day or the entire day! Check with the Elections official in your area for your eligibility.
There are several benefits to volunteering in this capacity, a number of things to be learned and much we, as a nation, are grateful to experience. I look forward to hearing your voice in the crowd. Even if we are on opposite sides of the aisle. Whether it is to make America great again, to get off the sidelines together, because now is our time, for the people, for America, we will rise with persistence. Together milspouses will be a part of that; a huge part, playing a vital role. I’ll see you there!
