We are right around the corner from the summer wedding season. The various tv shows will dazzle us with million-dollar weddings, brides having multiple outfits, and a destination some can only dream of. With everything that families have experienced in the past year, many are looking to have their wedding on a budget. Here are some cost-friendly ways to have the wedding you want, and keep your wallet happy!
1: Flowers
While real flowers will give your venue the beautiful smell, you can get the same look for a lot less with silk flowers. The bonus to silk flowers is that you can have a forever memento of your special day. If you are crafty, you can even make your own bouquets, or keep to simple stems wrapped in ribbon for the elegant feel.
2: Photography
While I will say to never skimp on one of the most important parts of your wedding memories, you can save a little money here. Some photographers who are looking to expand their portfolio or break into the wedding photog business may offer reduced rates. Additionally, if you ask around you may find you have a friend who does phenomenal work with a photography business on the side. Save on some of the reception costs with photography by putting some disposable cameras on the tables and ask your guests to take pictures throughout the night for you.
3: Venue
Many venues will offer discounted rates for daytime weddings, or those held on Fridays or Sundays. If Sunday, consider having a brunch affair so your guests can catch a plane and get to work on Monday. If electing for a small, intimate affair with your guests having flexibility in schedule consider getting on the venue cancellation list. When a spot opens up the venue can offer that date a deep discount since many deposits are usually non refundable, and the venue wants to fill the space.
4: Utilize Your Contacts
There is nothing wrong with utilizing your friends. Have a friend with their own DJ business you were planning to invite anyway? Ask if they can DJ your wedding for a discount or even as a wedding gift to you. Same goes if you know someone who is ordained and can marry you, or cater your wedding. Having a friend who can provide a service for your wedding at a discount and have the advertising of their business can be a win win all around.
5: Be Wedding Party Budget Friendly
Asking friends to play a role in your big day can come with an expense to them, especially if they have to add travel into their budget. If any of your wedding party is military, consider letting them wear their dress uniform to prevent the tux rental fee. For your bridesmaids, pick a color that you want, but then let them find a dress in that chosen color that fits their budget, and also a style that fits their figure.
6: Don’t Be Afraid of Payment Plans
If you can’t pay for everything up front, ask the specific vendors about payment plans. Many will offer their own financing or payment plans to help customers. Setting up a payment plan directly with the vendor can help reduce interest amounts or credit card fees.
Many families are also opting for either a very small intimate ceremony or courthouse wedding, and then splurging on a big reception with all the friends and family. No matter what your budget is, there is a way to make it your perfect day!
