Shareara Britton Brown: Deployment Sept 07, our house caught fire and we lost everything. October 07 after getting straight from the fire I get a call in the middle of the night that my hubby was being flown to South Africa for emergency surgery. 2007 was not our year.
Michele Boback: EVERY time my husband was on a deployment or at a school, I locked myself out of the car.
Katie Green: Deployment curse hit me hard last year. Sump pump stopped working and basement flooded, garbage disposal stopped working and flooded my kitchen, my husband’s SUV alarm malfunctioned and for 2 nights would go off all hours of the night (had to disconnect the battery), Jiffey Lube put wrong oil in during an oil change and made hubby’s SUV break down. I was pregnant and had morning sickness for 7 solid months. There was terrible heavy snow during winter and bad tornado warnings during spring, 8 months pregnant I caught the flu and ended up in the ER. Whew. Luckily, my babies were healthy and gave me minimal trouble. I think I aged 5 years in those 6 months!
Amy Manthei Thien: I am 2 months into this deployment and this is what occurred within the first 3 weeks: I PCSed into the new house by myself (there is at minimum $7,500 in damages/missing items so far); the new kitchen table I purchased was brought in multiple deliveries (table top and 3 chairs, then 2 more chairs, then 1 chair and table base. Took 2 weeks… The dishwasher flooded the kitchen (thus needing a new one and took 3 attempts to get it correctly installed); the washing machine broke (and no deliveries for still another week for any machines at Home Depot, so I have been doing laundry at 2 neighbor’s homes for weeks. LOVE my fellow military spouses!!); no electrical power to the rear of the house (?); my parked SUV was backed into, causing $2,600 in damages; then got rear ended again in the rental on the way to pick up my vehicle; the air conditioner broke; my daughter has been to the ER twice (split her mouth and had an allergic reaction to antibiotic medication); I’ve had to fire TWO contractors for trying to take advantage of me (charging me for jobs not done as contracted); the sprinkler system burst and flooded the yard and the deployment has already been extended. There is far more, but I’m getting depressed typing this. On the positive note, if it’s all happening to me here, then the hubby is safe and sound. 😀 Deployment Curse is real and in full force with us! Deployment number 7 sure sucks! I can’t tell if it’s killing me or making me stronger. 😉
Michelle Mulhill: During my husband’s last deployment, our house flooded and we went for 6 months without a kitchen…all to the tune of $20,000. I never want to be without a kitchen with 3 kids to feed ever again.
Jeshanah Chapman: Last year, my DH deployed for the first time and I became a space cadet. Perfectly logical things became utterly impossible for me to do. I locked myself out of my home 3 times and even locked myself out of my car. Thank goodness I gave my friend a spare key before deployment!
Sheila Renee: During my husband’s deployment, my son was diagnosed with leukemia.
Jessica Skinner: The time at the gas station when I locked my keys in the car with my 2 year old daughter buckled in the car seat. 🙁 I ran into the store 8 months pregnant, in tears, to ask for help. An off-duty police officer stepped up & called for help. Seconds later firefighters arrived. The solution was for them to wait by my car with my daughter while the officer drove me down the street to my house to get the spare key…I was so emotionally horrified, but I also felt blessed by the help from the wonderful officer & fire fighters. My daughter, un-phased by the incident was excited to be “chilling” with the firefighters. The fire truck stopped briefly before they left the station & 1 of them ran back to bring my daughter a souvenir firefighter hat 🙂
Shannon Jones: This last deployment, working as an LPN and attending nursing school above full time, with two kids of my own, I got emergency foster placement of my four nieces and nephews. But military spouses can multi task…that semester I got a 4.0 and I finished finals on Tuesday!
Angie Maffei Yarnell: My water softener broke, a bat got in my house, my kids rebelled and I got my car stuck in the snow several times. I realized after that long year I could handle most anything!
Melissa Shoelover: My hubby deployed just two weeks ago from today! A few days ago I got in my car to start it, and now it won’t move out of the PARK position!! It never fails!! And my wonderful hubby is on a year long deployment :/
