Nicole didn’t waste any time, she applied for grant to help pay for Jasmine’s ballet lessons so could continue with her way of life. Nicole firmly believes the children shouldn’t suffer because dad or mom is called to serve their country.
“That first grant helped my family. They have no idea what they did for me. It’s not the amount of the grant, it’s because the organization cared about what I’m dealing with. I will always be grateful.”
This organization really shines a spotlight on Guard and Reserve families living in communities across America. Our Military Kids helps families who often fall outside the parameters of established support program. It’s not just Guard and Reserve families. Wounded Warrior families are also eligible for grants, too.
Since the organizations inception 2004, they have given away 46,000 grants totally $18.5 million – an astonishing figure. Our Military Kids receives its funding through private donations, corporate and federal funding.
Grants can be used for music lessons, like the one Melissa Miller’s 7-year-old son Justin enrolled in while his father was deployed to Africa. Justin’s family lives in Connecticut, hours away from base agencies in New York and other military families who can lend support.
