What you probably WON’T see in the headlines, however, is the neighbor who took a plate of cookies to her friend saddened by the departure of her sailor husband.
You probably will never hear about the man who stopped at rush hour to help a stranger change his tire.
The woman who paid for the groceries of a mother struggling to find her credit card in the heat of her toddler’s tantrum probably won’t be praised in any history books.
A few million acts of kindness will never generate a viral Facebook post a tweet, but that won’t change the fact that it happened and continues to happen every second of every day in this land that we so love.
Our history is beyond rich with examples of tenacity, will and gallantry.
These attributes have not faded, they are still embedded in our culture and society.
We haven’t fallen from honor.
We’ve proved over and over again that we are a people that conquers fear, holds hands in the thick of tragedy, fights for the well-being of our brothers and sisters, and rises in the face of tribulation.
These attributes, though not inherited in the blood-stream, are embodied in the tradition that makes the United States of America the leader and light of the free world.
