Happy New Year! I’m so excited to be here and contribute to this milspo community.
For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Christie Nix. I am a personal trainer, with a Bachelors of Exercise Science and Kinesiology. I’ve competed in figure, fitness, and powerlifting with first place trophies in each. Currently I’m an online trainer with Sisters in Shape, and spend most of my time helping women lose weight or learn to grow a business and earn an income from home, through my health and wellness company.
Like you I’m also a military spouse. When I said I do I also said, I’ll follow you. We’ve been married almost 16 years, Active duty Army with 9 moves and three kiddos born in 3 different states.
My success in the fitness industry really came through the demand of needing to find a way to do what I loved from anywhere, while being a stay-at-home mom and army wife. I’ve spent the last 6 years pouring my lifestyle of fitness into social media, and subsequently started a business and tribe in a way I never knew possible.
I’ve worked with 100’s of women, from all over the world.
Today it’s my prayer that maybe something I write will be the key to unlocking a truth that’ll help you in your own fitness journey, to live fit for life, not a size, scale weight, or stay stuck in a self limiting belief that you can’t change.
Before you read any further I have some questions for you to think about.
Have you ever been on a diet? Or started a fitness program to only quit or give up? Have you compared yourself to someone? Or thought I’m not like her so I can’t have that? Or I’ll never look like that?
Or felt so unsure of what to do at the gym, you just stay on the elliptical, making no real progress?
Here’s the thing. I’m really good at my job because I get it. I get you because I am you. I’ve done all that, and thought ALL THOSE THINGS TOO.
I was anorexic in college. As a D1 athlete playing 90 minute soccer games a few times a week, practicing twice a day, strength training everyday, I still limited myself to 1000 calories. I so desperately wanted to be the small framed girl. To me that meant the magic scale weight of 115 pounds. .
Enter Marriage and Motherhood. The changes that I personally went through were drastic and hard.
I gained 55-65 pounds with my girls, I’d never felt so uncomfortable in my own skin. Sadly, not much had changed since college, I exhausted myself with calorie restriction and running to lose it. And I did. Deployments certainly helped. But I wasn’t healthy. Not completely. Not from the inside out.
It wasn’t until I saw a photo of my “ideal body weight” in a bathing suit, it was not cute. My version of skinny was not sexy. That 115 pounds did not serve me, neither did skipping meals all day.
Something had to change, other than another move, because we were doing that again too. Something had to change with my mindset.
Fort Knox Kentucky catapulted that shift for me. I found fitness competitions, the structure of it all forced me to address nutrition in a way I’d never had.
I successfully competed. And won. But what came from those experiences, over the years of stepping on stages and platforms, was something I’d never expected and something I want for you to have also, without having to compete to find it.
My passion and purpose now is to empower women, wherever they are, to live an #ALLiN life. My vision of that, for you, is so clear, that no matter what your fitness or weight loss struggles are, it includes movement, healthy habits, and a mindset that cultivates a growth of self love everyday.
You can eat well for life without being on a diet, you can find a fitness program that you can stick with, there is power from learning how to get off the machines and into the weights, and training for your best self will take you so much further than staying stuck because you don’t look like someone else.
Three things I need you to know and take with you as your journey through your 2019 goals:
You’re worth it.
You’re enough.
You have the time.
You’re worth FEELING amazing. The perfect body or scale number doesn’t provide your worth. Your creator does, embrace it, proclaim it. I’m worth it.
You’re worth the satisfaction that comes from jumping on a box for the first time. The badass feeling that comes from deadlifting or benching your bodyweight. Or even the high you get after burning 400-500 calories in a spin class.
You’re worth moving your body daily for the joy and satisfaction that it can move. Not because you ate too much cake. Or because you have a trip in four weeks. Or even a redeployment dress to rock. Those are great motivations, but not lifestyle applications.
