The Special *Military-themed* Days You Don’t Want To Miss This Month

It’s Military Appreciation Month and we are ALL about it. Of course, we celebrate military families all year long here at Military Spouse, but when the rest of the world joins in, cheers all around!

There is a lot going on this month and we want to make sure you now what’s up. If we’ve missed any big events or days, comment on the Facebook post here so we can make sure to note that!

May 1st

Silver Star Service Banner Day – May 1st is the day set aside each year to recognize the wounded service members who have given so much for our nation.

May 9th

Military Spouse Town Hall – In 2018, the Town Hall theme is “Go For It! How to make the leap to do great things.” We have an amazing lineup of speakers. The event is open to any and all military spouses (you do have to register on the site!)

May 10th

AFI Military Spouse of the Year Awards (presented by us!) AND the USO Metro Gala all in one! The event attracts Congressional members, senior military, Department of Defense leadership, and military spouses from all over the world. It is the event of the year and even though not everyone can attend in person, you will be able to live stream the event from our Facebook page and find out who will be the 2018 AFI Military Spouse of the Year!

May 10th

Before you watch the #MSOY18 awards in the evening, check out Homefront Rising during the day! This is where anyone who wants a voice in the public and has a voice for political advocacy can network, get involved, and make a difference.

May 11th

Military Spouse Appreciation Day – this is the day set aside each day to honor YOU as the military spouse, for all you sacrifice on a daily basis. You may often feel overlooked, unappreciated, and misunderstood, we’ve all been there; but know that the support you provide to your service member allows them to do their job for this nation with the peace that the homefront is guarded.

May 12th

American Military Partner Association’s (AMPA) 5th Annual National Gala is on May 12th, bringing together hundreds of LGBT service members, veterans, and military spouses to honor the modern military family.

May 13th

Mother’s Day isn’t necessarily a military-themed day, but we would be remiss if we didn’t include it in the list of important days to remember in May! We love honoring our military spouses who are mothers. Not only are you supporting your spouse, but you are raising the next generation while you do it!

May 19th

Armed Forces Day is the celebration of the strength of ALL the branches of the military. We all know that each branch has it’s unique perks for military spouses (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard) but at the end of the day, we are the US Military, one nation, under God.

May 28th

Memorial Day – on this day every year, we remember those who have paid the ultimate price by laying down their lives for our protection. We remember them in honor and we never forgot the lives that they lived – they were mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. We remember.
