In religious traditions all around our country and around the world, the message often is that the highest form of good is being there for others when they need support. The parable of the sheep and the goats, out of the book of Matthew, is one beautiful example among many of that message.
Many military families are experts at reaching out and helping, often pitching in the I truly believe we should live by the motto of doing for one another every day. The holiday season is filled with incredibly busy days, of course. But the holidays also bring a number of meaningful opportunities to make a real difference in people’s lives. I’d encourage you to find ways to get your family involved in these events. If your husband or wife is deployed, encourage them to join you to the best of their ability.
“Whether big or small, your gestures of kindness and empathy and your advocacy for your fellow man, are perhaps one of the biggest gifts you could ever leave your children and the next generation.”
Advocacy is more than politics. It’s more than lobbying. It’s about finding ways to help those around us. It’s something I think is second nature to most military families.
Take a moment this holiday season and find a way to care for those around you. It’s guaranteed to make your holidays the best ever. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a wonderful New Year!
