“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – Abraham Lincoln
On November 8th, 71.4 million Americans were glued to their TVs watching the election unfold.
We were checking every news site waiting patiently to be told who would be the next President of the United States.
At midnight, America was split down the middle, with people either rejoicing or crying at the news that Donald Trump was our President Elect. Since then, our country has seen violent protests, slanderous news reports, family and friendships ruined, various hashtags disagreeing with results, and so much more.
One of the main issues I have with this election cycle, is the negativity regarding the Electoral College.
The Electoral College has been an Amendment for 212 years. It has stood the test of time and simply because some people did not get their way with this election they want it abolished?
The absurdity of it all terrifies me way more than Trump being the Commander and Chief of our nation. How did our country get this way? When did the citizens of the United States forget how incredibly lucky we are to have free speech and the RIGHT to vote. When did we forget that citizens are allowed to practice ANY religion they desire, ASPIRE for any career, a have the RIGHT to expression.
How did our country get into mess that we are in currently?
I myself am a Republican, but that does not mean I am automatically a Trump supporter. I do not agree with many of the comments he has made in the last year and a half and I am fearful of comments he may make to foreign leaders if he becomes upset and irrational.
With that being said I am incredibly happy that Donald Trump is our President Elect and the House and Senate are Republican run.
I am not happy because of my own pride or because I want to mock those that had hopes of Hillary Clinton in the White House.
I believe for the first time in eight years things will be accomplished in government.
It baffles me when someone who has a loved one in the service could even support Hillary for a second of their day.
September 11, 2012 an attack on the United States Embassy in Benghazi, Libya left one US Ambassador, one Information Officer, and two CIA agents who were former Navy Seals dead by the morning.
Hilary Clinton would not report the incident as a terrorist attack and later denied responsibility of the incident.
The more recent FBI investigations on her in regards to her email servers should have shown the country the distrust we all should have in her.
The simple fact that the FBI had two investigations on her involvement with her confidential e-mails being on her personal server shook me to my core. The future president of the United States will be trusted with highly confidential information and if her personal server does not have the cyber hacking protection needed, who says our foreign enemy could not get their hands on all the United States confidential information?
If Hillary Clinton was a male with these scandals in her back pocket, I believe she would not be allowed to run for President. I’m all for women’s rights, of course! We’ve come so far as a nation in that area. But simply because she is female, should we ignore all else? Does that make sense to you?
I believe our country needs to find faith and hope once again in the great country that we have.
Individuals who do not support Trump, I hope you understand simply because I supported the Republican party does not mean that I agree with the things Trump said during this campaign. I know in my heart I am not a racist or sexist. I am not blind to the radical injustices that occur every day.
I am also not blind to the hatred towards peace officers, the men and women who put their lives on the line just like our loved ones do. I support LBGQT, I support women’s rights, I support abortion if the situation is correct (medical reasons or rape), I support police officers, I support the military, I support the right to bear arms, I support so many various things that fall into BOTH political parties.
At this point Donald Trump is our President Elect, and no matter how many protests or petitions are signed that will not change. For the next four years we will have the Trump family in the White House.
I believe that our country needs to take a step back and remember who WE are. We must remember that the American people are not Republicans verse the Democrats, we are ALL AMERICANS. We all have one goal to make our country mend its wounds and build a stronger nation.
The only way that can be accomplished is to be one country.
Imagine if everyone put all of their energy that is being spent on hatred and anger towards helping our country to heal and having an open and loving heart towards our neighbors.
Now that’s a country to be proud of today.
