OPM Still Searching for 7% of Breach Victims

“The Office of Personnel Management has been sending some 800,000 letters a day since Sept. 30, alerting current, former and prospective federal employees and family members that their information was compromised in a network breach last year.

That initial effort wrapped up on Dec. 11 with about 93 percent of notifications sent through traditional mail.

The remaining 7 percent represent individuals whose contact information was not readily available.

OPM is encouraging people who think they might have been affected by the breach but failed to receive a letter to reach out through a new online portal, launched on Dec. 1 with support from the Department of Defense.

Affected persons who received a letter and lost their PIN can also use the portal to obtain a new one.”
