After a year and a half of training, Ardmore mother of three Cody Hucal will be competing on American Ninja Warrior this upcoming season.
“She has the potential to be the best,” Shawn Mason said.
Hucal, 33, said she and her family moved to Ardmore in 2016 for her husband’s job – recruiting for the U.S. Marine Corps.
She says they all watch the TV show American Ninja Warrior, but it was her son who got her into training.
“My son who is almost 10 said, ‘Mom I think Dad could do that but I don’t think you could’ and I was blown away,” Hucal said.

Hucal found the Gauntlet fitness gym in town and signed her kids up for classes then later joined herself.
“I can’t sit here and watch you guys do that and not get on the course myself and I just thought I was going to play around,” Hucal said.
Being out of the Marine Corps for a few years and now a stay at home mom with three kids, Hucal – also known as Mama Gunzz – dedicates her free time to training up to six times a week.
After a year and a half of training Hucal will be putting her skills to the test for all to see.
“No matter what age they are, to see them have an accomplishment or to realize their potential in a field they didn’t have is the most rewarding,” Mason said.
Shawn Mason, owner of Gauntlet Fitness and Hucal’s coach, says she is the fourth person from the gym to compete on the show.
“Some people just want to make the show,” Mason said. “Well Cody has made the show and she has the potential to be become the best and that’s what’s exciting and you can only get that with the determination she has.”
“It still is surreal to know they called me and asked if I would be on the show,” Hucal said. “It’s exciting,”
The season premiere airs May 30.
