4. Your civilian friends have no idea what PCS, TLE or any other acronym mean.
And you know what, that’s OK. Because they do know what girl talk, golf outing and happy hour means. And sometimes that’s more than enough.
5. Your civilian friends remind you of who you were before you were a military spouse.
Being a military spouse is something we’re all proud of as we choose to support those we love in the military but if we’re being honest here, it has its difficult moments too. When our spouses are deployed or we’re preparing for yet another PCS, being a military spouse can feel all encompassing, to the point that we can lose ourselves in that definition.
But our civilian friends demand more from us, more than just knowing how many PCS’s or deployments our family has been through. They want to know our interests, our favorite foods, our experiences, where we’re from and our hobbies. They force us to remind ourselves who we are and to remember that being a military spouse is just one part of our identity.
