2. We’re PCSing…Again
There is a good chance that this summer you’re caught up in the annual PCS season that the military seems to love so much. Instead of packing suit cases full of swim suits and trashy novels you’re packing boxes of everything you own and getting ready for the next grand adventure. Sure, there may be camping trips. Air mattresses set up in empty apartments because your household goods delivery is three days late. Take-out Chinese eaten by candle light because the electric company can’t get to you until tomorrow. Forts made up of boxes because if you have to unpack one more useless thing today you’re going to lose your mind. But in the middle of all that the last thing on your mind is heading home for a guilt trip to mom’s house.
Even if you’re not the one packing up, I’d wager at least one of your close military friends is about to move off. Saying good-bye to friends that have become family at your duty station is never easy. It can be especially hard for your military kids to end the school year knowing that Susie and Johnny aren’t coming back next year. Instead of trying to throw your kids off schedule by taking a stressful trip, it’s understandable that you want to let them spend the last days they can with their friends and soak up as much time together as possible.
