Point 3: We’re more connected than ever before, but completely disconnected at the same time.
Why I agree: Phones and social media are a scary threat to all personal relationships these days. We’ve all seen that couple out at dinner both looking down at their phones and not at each other, heck maybe you’ve even been that couple before. I think every couple has been guilty of having a conversation with their spouse while also giving their attention to some kind of technology, be it a phone or a computer. It’s also so easy to talk to your spouse through technology, that sometimes couples can overuse this throughout the day and end up with nothing to say by the time they see each other that night. So instead they hop back on their phones.
Why I disagree: Technology can also be amazing for your communication. Every military spouse knows this; their phones or e-mails are their lifeline when their husbands are gone. Also, the occasional sweet text from your husband or wife can brighten up your whole day and let you know they’re thinking about you.
How to prevent: Don’t abuse your smartphones. When you’re on a date with your spouse, Put. The. Phone. Down. And look at your spouse instead. Make sure you spend at least 1, (and hopefully more!), hours a day with your spouse in which you are not looking at your phone, email, or social media.
