5 Things to Do With Your Kids This Summer

July is like the “humpday” of summer- we’re halfway through it! The ways to keep your kids occupied during these warm, sunny days may be a little more complicated than you had hoped.

So, as the coming school year approaches, here are 5 things to consider doing with your kids.

And trust us.. you won’t lose your mind. You’ll only gain great memories and experiences.

1. Make a list and scratch things off.

There are talkers and there are doers. Don’t become one of those families who ends up sitting down around the dinner table the night before the first day of school discussing how time flew by.

It is SO easy to discuss family road trips, amusement park visits, beach days, home makeover projects and books on a reading list. However, actually finding time to do all of those things can be a challenge.

Sit down as a family tonight. Make a list of activities you’d like to do together, whether it means heading to a baseball game or seeing a movie. Edit the list until there are 10 items on it and check them off as you go.

2. Make an obstacle course.

Whether you complete this feat with your own family or involve the whole neighborhood, this will be one activity that has everyone cheering for each other and laughing.

Obstacle courses promote healthy activities and are inexpensive fun for the whole family – not to mention, you can adjust the level of difficulty for each participant based on age.

Keep it simple by drawing a hopscotch board on the driveway, followed by directions written along the sidewalks, (example: 10 jumping jacks, sprint to the neighbor’s house, run backwards, ride your bike around the block, etc). Or get creative and make arches to crawl under with pool noodles, stack items from the garage to make hurdles, or get crazy with a water balloon challenge.

Think Ninja Warrior meets backyard fence.
