5 Tips For Surviving Life With a Newborn

We recently welcomed our daughter, Emma, into this crazy world. We are absolutely head-over-heels in love with this little bundle of joy. We are also a tad bit (ok more than a tad bit) exhausted, and there are days we are certain we are losing our minds! Let’s face it, no matter how much you prepare, no matter how much experience you have…a newborn baby will turn your life inside out and upside down! I have, however, discovered a few tips to make the experience a little less stressful. So let’s delve into the chaotic, messy, sleep deprived, and simply wonderful life that a newborn baby brings, shall we?

5) You are allowed to change your mind.

As new parents there are so many important decisions you have to make. Breast feeding vs bottle? Cloth diapers vs disposable? What baby gear best fits your budget and lifestyle? What are your wishes for a perfect delivery? How many visitors will you let around baby, and when? And then delivery day gets here and you realize that, even if you have done this before, some of your choices just may not work. It’s ok to step back and re-evaluate. Trust your instincts, and realize that, in the end, a healthy, happy baby is the goal…not some picture-perfect version of parenting. You have the rest of your child’s life to be riddled with Mommy/Daddy Guilt. Give yourself a break in that department for now. Trust me, your hormones will thank you!
