Dear Readers,
I am so honored to be the featured author for the Military Spouse book club this month, and I’m thrilled to introduce you to the first three books in my bestselling Gansett Island Series—Maid for Love, Fool for Love and Ready for Love! When my friends at Kensington Books first told me that my books had been chosen for your July book club feature, I was delighted—not just because of the amazing opportunity to share my books with you, but because I too am a military spouse! My husband served in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 2001. I was along for the ride for the last ten years of his career, and had the amazing good fortune to live in Rota, Spain as well as in Maryland and Florida before we returned to my home state of Rhode Island in 2002. Before I married him, I’d never lived outside of Rhode Island. And one month after I said, “I do,” I was living in Spain. Talk about a life change. Our daughter was born in Spain and our son at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Maryland.
My husband’s last tour of duty was on the USS John F. Kennedy, an aircraft carrier stationed out of Mayport, FL. During that three-year period, he was deployed for more than 20 months! There I was at home with a three-year-old who missed her daddy, a newborn who never slept, a full-time job that I did from home, two dogs… You know the drill! Those were GOOD times! Haha! My favorite story from that time was hiring a babysitter to stay with the kids and then pretending to leave, walking around my house and crawling into the open window of my office, so I could work without them knowing I was in the house. Can you relate to this? I still laugh about that almost twenty years later. During those crazy years of small kids and deployments and working full-time from home, I used to dream about writing a book. My father would teasingly ask me what I was doing from 3-6 a.m. He is funny! It was during these franticly busy days and years that the idea for what became my first book, Treading Water, began to percolate.
Now 13 years after I finished Treading Water, I’m the author of 70 contemporary romance novels—and one historical romance that’s being published next year by Kensington! Since the end of 2011, I’ve been a full-time author and now I’m also an empty nester. Those kids sure did grow up quickly. Gansett Island is my “marquee” series, set on a fictional version of my beloved Block Island, Rhode Island, a tiny island located off the southern coast of the smallest state. It’s one of my favorite places in the world, and it’s been such a thrill to write the McCarthy family and their friends, who live, play, work and fall in love on Gansett Island. I recently published the 19th book in the series, with no end in sight. I hope you love Gansett Island as much as I do! Step foot on the ferry for the ride to an island where family, love and community are the main themes, and a happily ever after is always guaranteed.

xoxo
