Strength, Courage, & Determination – the foundation of a Military Spouse, and the core of my hero and heroine!
When you think about a military spouse, you consider the challenges they face daily to support our vets. In addition to raising their family and perhaps holding an additional job, they’re the heart of what holds their family together through deployments, family emergencies, and moving across country or to another continent. Regardless of what life tosses their way, military spouses persevere.
After watching my mother raise my brother and I as my father deployed, often across the world, and meeting so many other families faced with the same challenges, I’m aware of the difficulties that military spouses face. In addition, as a retired Navy Chief, AGC(AW), Meteorologist/Oceanographer, married to a military member, I understand the complexities of packing up everything you own, leaving friends, and making new ones in different locals and cultures. I also understand of the deep bond between military spouses. Regardless of where you’re stationed, military spouses support each other, help boost morale during long deployments, celebrate the joys, and are there through the tough times.
When creating strong characters, I need to look no further than the military spouse who has a huge heart, is fiercely loyal, and unshakable in their conviction to support our troops and country. We love to cheer for a hero or heroine who overcomes incredible odds to achieve their goal, one who has fortitude, and if necessary, is willing to risk all for who they love. In essence, the description of the military spouse, who truly is a hero.
My deepest thanks to all military spouses for your service. For when the military member gives their oath to defend our country, the military spouse and family serve as well. God bless you.
