Homes for Our Troops
Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) works to build homes and rebuild lives for disabled veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of the folks they work with have sustained major life-altering injuries, including limb amputations or, in some cases, partial or full paralysis. The specialized mortgage-free homes they build offer these veterans the freedom and independence they deserve, which helps them focus on family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. For more information, or to make a donation, please visit HFOTusa.org.
Patriot PAWS
The mission of Patriot PAWS is to train and provide service dogs at no cost to disabled veterans. Service dogs often help our American veterans with mobile disabilities and PTSD to restore their physical and emotional independence. These dogs train for up to two years, which can be a costly and time-consuming process. That’s why donations and volunteer efforts are so crucial. They have volunteer programs, fundraisers, and are always looking for help raising and training service pups. Please visit PatriotPAWS.org to find out how you can help.
Fisher House Foundation
Fisher House Foundation has served more than 250,000 families since its inception. It’s best known for a network of comfort homes where service members and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. They’re located very close to many major military and VA medical centers around the country. Families come together in shared spaces to support one another as well as their sick or injured love one. Fisher House helps ease the financial stress by offering free lodging so families can stay close by. They offer plenty of ways to get involved, so to become a part of the Fisher House community, please visit FisherHouse.org.
ThanksUSA
ThanksUSA’s mission is to provide needs-based scholarship contributions for the children and spouses of U.S. military personnel to use for higher education. It came from humble beginnings when two girls, Rachel and Kelsi Okun, saw their neighbor, Col. Lanier Ward, return home from Baghdad severely injured by an IED explosion. As young girls, they were fascinated by treasure hunts and wondered if the allure of such a game could support a national goal like helping disabled veterans. Years later, Treasure Hunt Aiding the Needs of Kids and Spouses of those serving in the United States of America (ThanksUSA) was born. Since then, they’ve awarded over 3,000 scholarships totaling nearly $10 million. To learn more, please visit ThanksUSA.org.
