Dear College Bound Again and Broke
Congrats on going as far as you have. I know it is not easy to do being a military spouse because of so much going on in our world. Being able to get that degree is a huge success.
First off, one of my favorite websites to look for help would be MySECO, that is the Department of Defense Spouse Education and Career Opportunities Program. It has so many valuable resources that can lead you in the right direction. Did you know know that even Coca-Cola has a scholarship for spouses? You can use this program to find In-State tuition assistance, scholarships, GI Bill transferability information and so much more.
GI Jobs has even more information on GI Bill Benefits here.
Military OneSource has a wealth of knowledge right at your finger tips. We need more people to utilize this resource so that we do not lose it. It is 24/7 support for everything from Financial to deployment.
Department of Veteran Affairs also has many educational links that can guide you to find the right school and financial information. Don’t forget to make sure that your are attending an accredited college. Many grants and scholarships require that you attend one that is accredited. You can look for those also on the VA website.
Military Spouse Education Initiative (MSEI) also has many ways to find funding for each of your educational goals. They can also point you in the direction of your base’s education centers. This organization is a non-profit and runs off donations made to the organization.
Knowing the resources out there for spouses is a huge step to many spouses in the military community. Be sure to share these resources with everyone you know so they can also further their education. Good Luck with that degree! I look forward to seeing where you go in your journey, so be sure to send me an update! Don’t give up! After all, you are a military spouse 🙂
