Today, Carol Gladys, the daughter of LT Beezley, now also a Navy spouse and Navy mother, is secretary of The Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors, Inc. She works tirelessly to protect stories like her father’s from being forgotten, and to encourage other survivors or their children to share their own stories. Gladys wants to ensure that Pearl Harbor memories of hard lessons, heroics, and bravery are preserved for future generations.
As you read this, many survivors have will have gathered together at Pearl Harbor, or in various places across the United States. Their numbers have dwindled throughout the years, and most of them are well into their 90’s. They share a common bond that only the tragedy of war and attack can bring; together they will find understanding, and perhaps, a sense of peace: the peace which was shattered that morning of December 7, 1941; the peace they have sought all their lives after.
