2. Charlie Brown Tree
Who doesn’t remember a favorite Charlie Brown tree? We are pretty sure there’s a fond memory of a grandparent’s attempt at the “perfect” tree somewhere on the edge of your memories. Our version is a bit simpler and doesn’t involve hatchets. This craft is slightly more involved than the previous but produces just as stunning a result.
Grab one or two large-ish branches from your yard. This time of year with the falling leaves, it’s pretty easy to find a dangling branch from a nearby tree, or a fallen branch not far from your doorstep. We used two medium-sized branches. Bring them into the garage or otherwise dry, indoor area to dry for a few days.
Are you ready to have fun with spray paint and glitter? First, we need to remove any bark from the branches that could otherwise shed a painted, glittery mess and leave our branches spotty. Simply peel loose bark or gently rub off with a sheet or block of sandpaper. Then, in a well-ventilated area (preferably outside), spray your branches with white paint. Allow the branches to dry until they are no longer tacky to the touch – at least a couple hours.
Once dry, apply a coat of spray glitter. A little or a lot – the choice is yours. Again, let them dry completely. Next, prepare a sturdy, cylindrical vase. We chose a tall, clear vase and filled it with a strand of garland we had in our stash (everyone has something they’ve held onto for just this type of occasion, right?). You could also use glass stones, river rock, or marbles. Finish the project by gently coercing the branches into your vase. The glittery branches alone are festively simple enough, but add dainty glass ornaments to the branches for an extra special touch.
