Since then, Morrissey’s shower concept has expanded. She created a traveling baby shower that reaches thousands military spouses across the country. Morrissey, an attorney by trade and with a heart for giving, has turned Operation Shower into a 501(c)(3) non profit and has opened a small office in St. Louis, MO.
“The showers provide wonderful items for the new babies and moms, and help bring the women together to celebrate with others in the same situation,” says LeAnn Morrissey, Chief Shower Officer.
Who can be the guest of honor?
An expecting military mom whose spouse is:
- deployed or deploying at some point during her pregnancy,
- active duty with a group that is deploying,
- or who was injured during deployment.
As of today, Operation Shower has hosted 43 showers across the country. They have celebrated 1900 mothers with fabulous baby showers and gifts. The organization hosts an average of 40 expectant moms per shower.
Morrissey’s team creates a special, exquisite event for these honored women. There are no paper plates at these showers: each event has a value of $40,000 per shower.
Every mom receives a “shower in box,” which contains new and high quality baby items. They also receive a high priced ticket item such as a stroller or car seat. Her group is financially supported by big names such as Babies R Us, the PGA Tour, and individuals who wish to support the military.
Their most recent shower hosted 120 moms and was the largest to date. Held at Universal Studios in Ventura, CA and drawing from five surrounding military installations, this shower was a star-studded event. Offering a true Hollywood red carpet treatment, the honored mothers were showered by famous fashion mom Heidi Klum.
“We are a conduit for those who want to give. There are so many people who just want to show their thanks and support to the military for their service. We’ve become that organization they can trust to take care of these families,” adds Morrissey.
And we couldn’t be more grateful.
