Step 2: Adjust Body Language to the Situation
Although power posing is a versatile and useful tool, it is not a one-size-fits-all solution. We must be very cognizant of our body language and apply situationally appropriate poses as we navigate our daily lives. Experts contend that 93% of communication is non-verbal (55% body language and 38% tone of voice).
For example, when we interact with a child that needs redirection it may not be appropriate to assume an open position. It may be best to lower ourselves down to the child’s level and assume a non-confrontational stance. Or, as we prepare to greet our spouse after they’ve had a long day in the office- we may want to rethink meeting them filled with a pumped-up hug and tenderly embrace them instead.
